Our History

Tavistock Capital was founded in 1986 by Tom Swidler and Mack Terry, after their departure from senior management positions at Bank of America.  In 1989, after having successfully completed more than thirty assignments, Tavistock Capital’s business, but not its name, was sold to Deloitte & Touche, which Tom and Mack then joined.

In April 2000, after his early retirement as a Vice President at IBM, Tom Swidler relaunched Tavistock Capital.  Mack Terry is currently a Tavistock Capital Business Partner.

In 2011, Tavistock Capital opened an Asia Pacific office in Hong Kong in order to more effectively conduct our business in that region.

Tavistock Capital is named after the historic town of Tavistock in Devonshire, England, whose town Council generously permitted us to use its crest.  To learn more about the town of Tavistock, click
