Thomas Wilson, Managing Director, Asia Paciifc Thomas Wilson joined Tavistock in July of 2007 as a senior consultant. In 2011, he was promoted to Managing Director, Asia Pacific. He has over ten years experience in the venture capital and private equity investment field in Asia, principally China. Since 2002 he has focused on information technology-sector investment opportunities in the Asia Pacific region.
Among other projects, Tom assists Asian communications hardware and software companies determine the market for their products and services in the United States and Europe. Tom has fifteen years’ successful experience in these areas acting as an independent consultant, contractor with other consulting firms, and with a Hong Kong Venture Fund. Tom reads, writes and is fluent in Mandarin Chinese. Tom also works with the portfolio companies of U.S. and European venture capital/private equity firms as they plan and implement strategic partnerships in Asia.
Illustrative of Tom’s accomplishments are:
Assisted a major Asian information technology company in evaluating the U.S. market for its software. The outcome was positive and Tom then assisted in developing and implementing an entry strategy that established a joint venture in the U.S.
Developed a plan and implemented a strategic partnership for a U.S. information technology company to partner with an Asian company that is currently evolving into joint investments and coordinated R&D.
Provided significant deal flow to several U.S. investors and assisted in researching Asian regulatory considerations, policies, and practices to optimize these investments.
Provided investment banking advisory services to clean tech and renewable energy firms in Asia, addressing fund-raising, management structure, and identification/assessment of appropriate markets.
Tom has an MBA from the University of Washington, where he also completed the International Management Fellows program focusing on business and management in China, and Mandarin Chinese. Tom graduated summa cum laude from Washington StateUniversity with a B.A. in English and a minor in Business Administration. He completed additional studies in Chinese language and culture at the University of Victoria, in Victoria, Canada, and Principles of Financial Analysis and Accounting at the University of Washington Extension School. |
